Foreword
I'm 19 years old and have been struggling with mild to moderate acne ever since I was 16. Before that, I had clear skin with a pimple or two once a year. I started breaking out all of a sudden after I reached form 5 (grade 11). It was simply a colony of non-inflamed pauples on my upper cheeks. After that, I began getting occasional pimples, both inflamed and non-inflamed. They were all pretty mild, up until a while ago.
A month ago, I began developing moderate acne. It all started off with two inflamed pimples on my right cheek. After that, more pimples decided to group together to form red bumps. Two bumps are pretty severe on my right cheek. They hurt if I even lightly brush my finger against them. The diameter of the larger one is comparable to that of half a pea. The rest are just plain old inflammed acne. The pimples are on both of my cheeks and also the patch of skin between my eyebrows. Apart from there, the rest of my skin is fine. I've never broken out along my jawline or lower cheek once. It's very weird how pimples choose to appear in particular places and leave others clear.
Anyhow, my father urged me to see a dermatologist. He prescribed two kinds of antibiotics -- Tetralysal 300 mg (once daily) and Flucloxacillin 30 mg (twice daily). There was also this Foban cream (fusidic acid) to put on every night on the affected areas. He told me to come back after a week, so basically I am on a trial now.
After reading a few acne treatment logs on tetralysal, I know it's rather strange how I'm being put on the same treatment even though my acne doesn't appear to be that bad. Perhaps in Hong Kong, practioners tend to dish out strong stuff on you just to make sure the effects show up in a short period of time (my experiences with general doctors). They don't like to keep tabs on you. Usually, they like to see you good and gone, so that they could move on to other 'more serious' patients.
So, I'll be keeping a log for as long as my treatment lasts. My dermatologist did not brief me through the antibiotics or their side effects, so I was very shocked to learn that there might be an 'inital breakout'. He didn't even tell me that I couldn't drink milk two hours before and after taking the medication, I had to find that out myself online. No brownie points for him. I hope that breakout doesn't happen to me.... and I hope it heals my acne soon

Day 1 -- 17th July, 2013
I followed the instructions and took one flucloxacillin pill at night. I also spot-treated my acne with the foban cream. After half an hour or so, my skin began to feel quite tight and dry. No peeling visible. The redness and swelling seemed to go down a bit.
There is another skin complication I possess (and which I told my dermatologist but he dismissed as unimportant) -- I am allergic to stearates and sulphates in cosmetic products. This includes and is not limited to: soap, body wash, moisturizers, facial cleaners, facial scrubs, toners, sunscreen, make-up, lip balm. Shampoo and conditioner contain those chemicals as well, but my scalp seems to be immune to the allergy. Therefore, unlike those who could just slap on some moisturizer, I have to deal with sitting through a daily honey mask for 30 min and drinking a lot of water. In this case, if the foban cream makes my skin even drier, I'm going to have a very, very hard time....
Day 2 -- 18th July, 2013
My skin is definitely feeling very dry. It is beginning to peel on the right cheek. I took the tetralysal this morning. The only side effect I got was dizziness, but that disappeared after noon. The largest pimple on the area between my brows has a scab forming over it, so that means it's going to recover soon. There seem to be a new pimple on the left cheek. Perhaps if I treat it properly, it won't grow into a full-fledged inflamed pastule. Not much progress today overall. Skin still quite red and swollen, but feeling very dry and itchy.
Tetralysal = Lymecycline
3 months of taking lymecycline is required before assessing its impact, and it would be best to continue using a topical treatment as well, preferably a topical retinoid.

I've never been to a dermatologist for acne before, so I'm not too familiar with treatments (like retinoids or topical creams). I'll ask him when I go back for the next check-up in a few days' time.
Day 3 -- 19th July, 2013
The area of peeling skin is growing larger on both cheeks, but my face doesn't feel as dry and tight as it was before. The pimple that has started scabbing has disappeared overnight. I had to go out today for the annual Book Exhibition...I felt a little uncomfortable when people looked my way and started scanning my face. I've never encountered something like this before. Now I understand how depressing it might get for people who have to live with severe acne.
On another note, one of the pustules on my right cheek had popped all by itself. After dabbing on some foban cream, it appears to have gone down. I'm not a serious picker, but the sight of ripe pimples do tempt me from time to time. I really should keep my hands off my face to avoid further inflamation and potential scarring.
Day 4 -- 20th July, 2013
Well, it's definitely healing. The redness has faded quite a lot and the pus has disappeared from most of the pimples. Most of them have begun to shrink into small red bumps, I guess that's better than angry pus-filled pustules. Hopefully by the end of the week it would be loads better.
Day 5 -- 21st July, 2013
The redness is definitely going down. It's the dull red that is associated with healing pimples. I think the next step is to start healing the possible scars that might be left behind. One of the three pimples on my right cheek (the cluster) has already popped and healed.
The only annoying part about the whole process would be the low tolerance of my family. My grandmother seems to think that acne could vanish overnight, traces and all. A whole week of treatment is too long for them. I wish they wouldn't emphasize on the fact that I'm a girl and I need to protect my looks. I have an other half who loves me (and even went to the dermatologist with me). He held me when I cried and reassured me that the condition would become better by the end of the week. I'm glad I have him, someone who doesn't mind about how I look and certainly doesn't mind about the occasional pimples. I'm one lucky person
Day 6 -- 22nd July, 2013
My forehead has completely recovered! No scars either, so that's a thing to be thankful for. My left cheek is almost healed, but I can still see a few tiny bumps that haven't completely cleared up yet. The worst zone would be the right cheek. Although the cluster of pimples have begun their recovery process, but it is still redder than other places. I know that I've passed a milestone in my mission for clear skin when even my grandmother commented tonight that my skin appeared to be getting better.
